District C–1 2022–2023 Lions Convention

The District C-1 Lions Convention, held January 28 & 29, 2023 in Camrose, AB was a huge success. The host Clubs, Camrose Swans & Roses and Bawlf & District Lions Club, did a tremendous job of organizing and making sure things ran smoothly at the Norsemen Inn, the host hotel. This was one of the most well-attended Conventions in quite some time.

Re-connecting, Collaborating and Communicating was the theme for the weekend. We had some amazing entertainment on Friday evening, along with a great array of silent auction items, and a 50/50 Draw. Speakers and subjects on Saturday included the Leduc Lions Solar Array Project, Kids Cancer Care Foundation, the Stollery Children’s Hospital, Ag Plastic Solutions, Vision Screening project, Hunger projects, Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides, and more. Members appreciated the variety of topics and ideas presented as great information to take back and share with their Clubs.

Congratulations also go out to the many award winners over lunch and during the District Governors Banquet. Your dedication to Lionism and your community is an inspiration to all.

2022-2023 District C-1 Citizen of Distinction Award recipient Peggy Makofka
A special congratulation goes out to the 2022-2023 District C-1 Citizen of Distinction Award recipient Peggy Makofka, who received a Melvin Jones Fellowship.

The weekend’s special guests, International Director Allen Snider and wife Lion Susan, were thoroughly impressed with the Lions’ hospitality shown during their visit. ID Allen also had some very inspirational words and encouragement during his address Saturday evening. Interesting things are coming from Lions Clubs International in the near future; stay tuned!

Acknowledgement also goes out to the many new Lions members and first-time Convention attendees that were present. You are the future of this organization, and we appreciate your commitment and attendance.

Solar Array Tour with ID Allen Snider:

Thank you to the Leduc Lions Club who on Friday before the convention hosted ID Allen, Lion Susan, C-1 Environment Chair Pat Ryan, myself and a few other Lions on a tour of the innovative projects they’ve been doing in their community. We visited various sites around the city and toured Telford Park, Lions Park and a drive-by (due to the weather) of the Leduc Lions Solar Array Project. The weather may not have been the warmest, but the hospitality was! Thanks again for the tour and lunch. More to follow about the Solar Array Project.
