February 23-24, 2024

My sincere thanks go out to the Drayton Valley and Pembina Valley Lions Clubs, Convention Chair Lion Lorna Luchyk, Convention Advisor, PDG Suzanne Leshchyshyn, MC Lion Dylan Fulks, and to every other Lion who attended the District C-1 Convention. You all helped to make it such a success!
It was a busy Convention in Drayton Valley. My congratulations go out to those recognized during the afternoon lunch, Lion Thomas Varghese receiving his Lions Certified Instructor Program certificate and pin, PDG Suzanne Leshchyshyn receiving the Dr. Lynn G Hall Leadership Award, and Ed Berney from Stony Plain receiving the Citizen of Distinction Award, nominated by the Stony Plain Lions Club. From Friday night, Lion Blaine Brooks from the Edmonton Millwoods Lions Club was chosen from District C-1 to be entered into the MC C Lions Hall of Fame.
Saturday morning featured the presentations on Vision, (from the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation and LERF) Diabetes (from the U of A Hospital and DRIFCan), and the sharing and fellowship between Lions all made for a great weekend. Saturday afternoon featured a Lions “Speed Learning” session with various topics being presented over the space of an hour. The Service Project consisted of packaging donated mitts, gloves, toques and socks and sending them to the Warming Hearts organization for distribution to the needy in Drayton Valley and area. The District Endorsed Vision Screening Project also certified 21 Lions from C-1.
Our International Guest, International Director Jay Moughon from Virginia certainly left an impression on attendees. Despite his 40 hour trip from Virginia to Edmonton, I still think I.D. Jay enjoyed meeting so many great Lions and all the hospitality extended during his stay in Drayton Valley.
The District Governor Banquet Saturday night featured a delicious meal enjoyed by all, a very inspiring message delivered by International Director James “Jay” Moughon, and recognition of some very deserving Lions who have helped the District and Clubs immensely this year.
My congratulations go out to our future District C-1 Leadership. Following elections on Saturday morning, your new DG Team will be DGE Lyle Gustafson from the Devon Lions Club, 1VDGE Ted Mikkelsen from the Spruce View Lions Club, and 2VDGE Thomas Varghese from the Edmonton Millwoods Lions Club. Also on the ballot, the District C-1 representative for MD C Vice Council Chair is PDG Suzanne Leshchyshyn. PDG Suzanne will now be on the ballot at the MD C Convention in Lethbridge against the District C-2 representative for the position of Vice Council Chair, 2024-25. Good luck to PDG Suzanne, and she looks forward to your vote when you attend the MD C Convention in April 26-27, 2024.
Lion Dave Leshchyshyn
